iTunes Genius is genius!

After the fatal MobileMe launch, the not-working iPhone updates or the monopolistic-communistic rejections of apps on the AppStore, Apple has managed to at least bring out a stable version of iTunes. Despite the usual bug fixes, Apple brought some new features as well. That includes on the one hand some new visualizers, super-cool list views and the iTunes Genius.

I’m your Genius

Making playlists yourself is history. The iTunes Genius now takes care of that. You just select a song you like and of which you’d like to have a playlist with songs that just fit. Click the Genius button and there you have it. A perfect playlist.

It’s genius - but not entirely

When I first looked at the feature I thought … wow, that sucks! I didn’t even bother trying it out ’cause I thought I’ll just get all songs listed which have “Love” in them if I select a “Love” song. :-) I didn’t expect any “Genius” behind the playlist creation. Though, it didn’t turn out to be that way. The iTunes Genius really does work well and the songs fit together like a charm. I really enjoy this new feature.
Though, one thing that bothers me a bit is that it doesn’t work with all songs just yet. If you get a brand new song from the iTunes Store then it seems like there isn’t enough algorithmic data for the Genius to output anything.

Besides that, there is one bug where iTunes doesn’t save changes ID3 Tag information but I guess all of that will be solved with the next updates.

Got Thoughts?

By all means share them, and start the conversation.
