The Capsule (for Time)

When Apple introduced the TimeCapsule back in January , I wasn’t interested in their product at all. My feeling told me it’s to expensive, it won’t work and the wirless connections would be to slow. I was wrong. I recently bought the 1TB version and I have been moving files like a crazy horse. I won’t turn this into some kind of review for this product, I just want to recommend it. The recommendation goes to especially those with laptops and large iTunes libraries.

iTunes is wirelessly on all my Macs

Yes! That’s what I have always been wanting ever since. I get my music on my iMac and on my MacBookAir at the same time and wherever I am in the house. I can now sync my iPhone and iPods from the laptop or the iMac.
I have moved the whole iTunes library to a small (160GB) external hard-drive which is plugged into the USB port of the TimeCapsule. The USB port is actually shared with a USB printer … but thats another story. So why did I save the music on the external hard-drive and not on the actual TimeCapsule? Well the reason for that is that I want to be able to take my music with me for longer trips. The TimeCapsule wouldn’t be the perfect companion for that. :-)

For all you speed freaks

Running a external hard-drive with passive power connection (no external supply needed) on a wireless g network works perfectly fine. The music runs without any kind of lag. Movies take half a second before they launch but after that they run just as smoothly as the music does. The only thing which takes a bit of time is the album art view and the synching of movies with iPods.

So for all of you looking for this iTunes solution, I really recommend getting one of those TimeCapsules. The money is really worth. The backup options and all the other stuff you get is just as good as the USB-port. :-)

By all means share them, and start the conversation.
