Google changed it’s favicon!

Up until recently, Google had the very typical favicon (don’t know what a favicon is?) where the capital “G” was inside a square box with each side having a different color. Today, or at least today I realised, Google has designed something new. They have replaced the capital “G” with a small “g” and only made it blue on a white background; fading into grey at the bottom.

its great

I honestly think that this icon rocks. It’s simple and it just totally fits into Googles image. They wanna be a kid-like and friendly company, thus a small “g” lends itself better than a capital “G” for the favicon. The “G” was blue before, so why should that change? Removing the square border was the best move the designer could have taken. We are no longer in the pixel-art age where all icons were square and simple, so that move was obvious and necessary. Without this border, the icon looks much more modern.

All but one thing

I can’t really say wether the grey fade below the “g” is a shadow or if it just a gradient for the whole background. This part looks a bit unfinished … so, Google, change that part! Otherwise, kudos to the designer!
